1. FC Gera 03 is a German football club located in Gera, Thuringia. It plays in the 5th division Thüringenliga. The club was founded in 2003 as a result of the fusion of TSV 1880 Gera-Zwötzen and SV 1861 Liebschwitz. It consists mostly of players, who used to play in higher divisions, especially for the two most successful Thuringian clubs, FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and FC Carl Zeiss Jena; therefore its current goal is the promotion into the fourth division Oberliga.
Gera 03's greatest success to date was reaching the finals in the TVF-cup, the cup, in which all Thuringian clubs in the Regionalliga or lower, and the winner of which qualifies for the German Cup. They lost the game against FC Carl Zeiss Jena, but qualified for the 2006-07 German Cup nonetheless, because Jena reached the 2nd Bundesliga, which means that the club was qualified for the German cup anyway. Gera 03 hosted 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the opening round, but lost 0:2.
1. FC Gera 03 play in the Stadion der Freundschaft which has a capacity of 16,800 spectators. They share the venue with 1. SV Gera.
The most famous player to have played for Gera 03 was Marco Weißhaupt, who went on to play in the Bundesliga for Hamburger SV, SC Freiburg, and Hansa Rostock.
The club also has a women's football team, which plays in the Regionalliga.
