1-3-1 offense

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1-3-1 offense is an offense in basketball. it is played with a Point guard on top, two players at the wings (usually a guard and forward) the center at the free-throw line, and the remaining player at the baseline.

[edit] PLAYER MOVEMENT

The point guard will usually pass to either wing player, in which case the Center runs down into the low post, and the baseline runner will run to the side the ball is on. The player on the wing will either shoot, pass to the baseline, low-post center or back to the point guard to reset. the player may also make an across court pass, but these are much less common. if the pass goes to the baseline, the baseline runner will shoot the ball, or pass it to the center who has rotated even farther into the low post. The cross court pass becomes especially useful if the defense starts to cheat over to one side, and the first pass is also useful if the defense is pressuring the point guard and the player at the free throw line is open. once he receives the pass he can either take the open shot or pass to the baseline runner for a layup
