This article is about Hour 2 on Day 5 of the Fox Network TV series 24.
CTU head Bill Buchanan and the rest of his team quickly track down evidence that reveals that Tony, Michelle, Chloe and Palmer faked Jack's death. Meanwhile, Jack, Chloe and Derek sneak into the site of Palmer's assassination where Wayne Palmer helps Jack search his penthouse for clues. They find one in David Palmer's memoir which he recently altered to plant a name and address, "Chevensky—16 Transport Way". Chloe discovers Chevensky is a baggage handler at the Ontario International Airport. The CTU staff finally realize that Chloe is missing and that she is accessing their network from the assassination site in order to monitor the penthouse's building. The Secret Service agents stationed in the building are alerted to apprehend Chloe, who CTU believe may be working with or being coerced by Jack. Chloe is apprehended during a diversion created to help Jack and Derek escape.
The Russian president, Yuri Suvarov, arrives in Los Angeles where he and President Charles Logan are about to sign an Anti-Terrorism treaty. President Logan is determined to protect the summit and treaty at all costs, as he regards it as a way of securing his place in history and the key to his political longevity. A man named James Nathanson watches Suvarov's arrival on television and orders a team of armed men to prepare to "launch" within the hour. The CTU staff appears to think that terrorists are planning to disrupt the summit, but Nathanson seems to have something else planned.
The emotionally disturbed First Lady Martha Logan reveals that Palmer tried to arrange a meeting with President Logan just before his assassination, phoning her as a go-between. She thinks the meeting had something to do with the summit. However, the phone recording that would confirm the contents of the call turns out to describe a simple charity dinner. The meeting is dismissed by the President and his staff as a delusion of Martha's. However, it is revealed that the recording had been doctored by presidential aide Walt Cummings, who is discovered to be a mole for Nathanson.
Jack enters the Ontario Airport and finds Chevensky, who commits suicide with poison rather than be forced to confess. At the same time, Derek sees Nathanson's team entering the airport. Against his mother's instructions he follows Jack into the airport to warn him shortly before terrorists assume control of the building and take the civilians inside hostage.
[edit] Trivia
- The body of David Palmer is seen in this episode and his voice is heard during the phone call between Palmer and Martha Logan, though Dennis Haysbert does not appear in the credits.
- Allstate Insurance again signed on as one of the sponsors of 24. Fans waxed nostalgic as Dennis Haysbert returned as their official spokesman.
- Real-time error: Logan said he was expecting the helicopter to land in five minutes. The five minutes lapsed when Jack, Derrick and Diana met up at the airport.
- When Jack enters the airport's terminal and asks for Chevensky's office there is a man walking behind him carrying a brown bag and wearing a blue shirt and pants. Few minutes later when Derek follows him the same guy is there walking in the same direction.
- Time error: the elevator goes up faster than it should, following the rhythm of the first few and last few floors.
- During Martha and Walt's interlude, we find out that David Palmer was 55 years old when he died.
- The IP address of David Palmer's computer is 292.162.12.2. Like 555 phone numbers, this is not valid, as no number in an IP address can be greater than 255.
