Æthelwold of East Anglia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Æthelwold was a 7th century Anglo-Saxon King of East Anglia in England.
Æthelwold was the youngest son of Prince Eni of East Anglia. He succeeded to the throne upon the death of his brother Aethelhere at the Battle of Winwaed in 655. He probably briefly accepted Northumbrian and then Mercian overlordship. He later extended his own influence over Essex, where he stood sponsor to King Swithelm when he was baptised by Saint Cedd. Æthelwold died in 664.
