Ælfwine

Ælfwine is an Old English name meaning "Elf-friend". The names Alvin and Elvis are modern descendants.
It was used by at least two historical personages:
- Ælfwine of Deira (c. 661 - 679), child-King of Deira
- Ælfwine (bishop), bishop of Elmham and Dunwich
It also appears in fiction:
- Ælfwine of England, an early character of fantasy author J. R. R. Tolkien who was later abandoned in later writings
- In the modernized form Elfwine, it refers to another of Tolkien's characters.
