Incapacitants

Incapacitants is a very well known Japanese noise band, check google (33,300 results). There was also plenty of information in that article to back up that fact, so I don't get where you are coming from when you are asking me, in my discussion page, to add a 'why' to justify their addition. Nagelfar\

Google is not God. While it can show some level of notability, I still haven't found which WP:MUSIC guidline it does meet. Show me which one, and I will accept it. -^demon 23:50, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
Look more closely next time, from WP:MUSIC; For performers outside of mass media traditions: 5. Is frequently covered in publications devoted to a particular sub-culture that is itself notable. Thats the main one, and this includes google. Nagelfar 23:56, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
My mistake. AfD rescinded. -^demon 13:37, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
No problem, it was very vigilant of you. And such testing does keep me in check if I do go too far with adding other lesser known bands ;-P but I was more sure about this one; I've heard about the band for years & have never (to this day) heard any of their material. I've just been trying to fill out the 'big names' in the Japanese noise scene lately. Nagelfar 03:51, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Logoboy95

I blocked Logoboy for creating hoax articles but I have not reported him as a vandal yet (though others might have). Please feel free to do so through the CVU. Looks like this guy is habitual from the number of blocks he has against him already. Cheers! 23skidoo 20:55, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm currently taking care of it now. -^demon 17:21, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

My Notices

Just wonderin', but is it necessary to post delete notes on articles such as this one? Or this one? They could be wikified, because they are not necessarily nonsense. -- Master of Puppets(MASTER! MASTER!) 18:39, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

I saw both of those as useless, non-salvagable material. I have been going on a delete frenzy today, so maybe I need to back off and take a break for a bit. -^demon 18:41, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
My friend, you should see me on busy days. I'm just suggesting that you go a bit easier on some of those; for example, said Service record might be mergeable. But you're doing a fine job. -- Master of Puppets(MASTER! MASTER!) 18:42, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Harold Barclay

I don't think this article is for deletion. I've wikified it and removed the speedy delete tag.--File Éireann 22:15, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

CSD vs AfD

Please note that articles not meeting WP:CSD should not get speedy delete tags. While I agree that the articles you have put db tags on should be deleted, many of them are not candidates for speedy deletion, and it's best not to waste time listing them there. Instead, you should follow the AfD procedure. --Aurochs (Talk | Block)

Noted. I'm in the process of writing some proposals for overhauls on CSD, as I feel it's too restrictive. -^demon 13:25, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Your RfA

I would urge you to consider withdrawing your nomination from RfA. There seems to be little likelihood of it passing, so might I suggest withdrawal? You may want to check out the guide to RfA or the miniguide to RfA. These might help you on your path to become Admin. See you around, my friend. --LV (Dark Mark) 20:33, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Re: IP Block on WP-EN

Since the block would have expired in a few hours anyway, I have removed the block on 208.0.239.54. As you can see from Special:Contributions/208.0.239.54, there has been quite a bit of mischief coming from this address over the last couple days, which is the reason behind the block. Hopefully those responsible have found something else to do and won't force us to block the address again. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 14:37, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Ok. I'll take a look at that and forward it on to our sysadmin and see if he can do anything about it. Thanks for taking care of this for me. --^demon 14:40, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

FYI, the vandal is back. I've left a warning on the IP's talk page. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 16:19, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I just noticed. This is getting rather frustrating. I'm sure it's just a single user in the school as well, since the vandalisms are very similar in nature (ie: making comments about gay people). I'm gonna draft an e-mail to one of the sysadmins now. Is it fine by you if I reference our discussion here? --^demon 17:21, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

From our end, there's not much we can do other than block the IP. Depending on how your network is set up, it may be relatively easy or rather difficult to nail down who is responsible for the vandalism. If you contact your network admnistrators, I'd recommend showing them your IP's contribution record and point out the vandalism edits. They may be able to narrow down the culprit(s) based on the timestamps. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 17:34, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Well, I sent him the e-mail with a link to the IP's contribs page, along with a detailed explanation. Our network is set up so you are required to log in to the router before browsing the internet. All activity is logged, so it should be fairly easy for them to pin down who was on en.wikipedia.org at those times. -^demon 03:01, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Correction on the assumption that it might just be 1 person. It could be quite a few people (all freshmen no doubt). As a member of the school, I have seen that the general reference to any and all people as 'gay' has become quite a trend (and quite funny in their minds). Most of these kids are nothing but under achieveing dilinquents and derive their humor from causing havok. OmniAngel 15:15, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Committee

Hi Demon. Despite our enthusiasm, it would appear that the committee idea has hit a standstill, literally. I'm basing this on the very low traffic on the draft page that was set up. Several users who disagree with the concept apparently have decided to torpedo the idea by simply ignoring it, and many users out there only start getting involved when they see a previous traffic going on at the page. Without a significant input, from a relevant morceau of the community, there's nowhere near sufficient legitimacy for the committee to even be established.
We should keep the page up though, since maybe people will be so concerned with the prospect of having a committee appointed to reform RfA that the reform just might happen as a preemptive action. Or maybe the classic method will fail, yet again, and people will turn to the committee idea for results. Regards, Redux 17:43, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately I must agree. I, by no means, will take it down, but I'm going to keep pushing for it in all other RfA debates. I might even add a link to it in my signature...hmmm. I'm not letting this one go down without a fight. --^demon 17:48, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Great to hear. Naturally, I'm right there with you. I too will lobby for the committee every time I get a chance. In fact, I was thinking if we shouldn't "advertise" the idea in more general forums, such as the Village Pump, or the Administrators' Noticeboard. I mean, even though a lot of people may vote on RfAs ocasionally, the people who notice the discussions (and that includes Linuxbeak's special discussion page) are usually the regulars in RfA, and that's a very restrict group. I already knew proposing the idea that several of the regulars on RfA were going to oppose the committee, vehemently. Their opinions weigh more because of the scarce number of users participating regularly. The trick could be getting more people from outside the clique involved. Of course, we also run the risk of meeting yet more opposition and having the idea buried definitively, but since we are already neck-deep as it is... Redux 00:26, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Not a bad idea. I was thinking along those lines earlier today. However, do we perhaps want to improve the quality of the proposal before we go to a larger audience? That way it looks like we have a better grasp of our own plan. --^demon 03:03, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Your edit

I've given up on the articles in question, and left the teenie fans to their obsession with peculiar typography — but don't edit another editor's Talk archives. The point of an archive is that it represents a record of what was said, not a record of what you think ought to have been said. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 23:53, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Point taken. Thanks for your concern. -^demon 04:32, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

CSS

Hey I was wondering if you know of a way to alter add css class in wiki?

I am making a map for the world in an open source game I play. I figured that if the whole community could correct it then it would stay resonably accurate and updates would be quick.

Since the world is grid based I create the map using absolute positioning and each cell is currently the part of two classes. One class defines how all cells should look, the other how this particular factions should look then the final style statement simply gives the coordinates. This can be found at: http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~bakerb04/map.html

The main problem is that the specification of how all cells should look is quite a large style command and I dont want to have to add it to each div command. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I looked all over wikipedia and had alot of trouble finding anything. Any help will do. Cheers Porco-esphino 07:48, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm not exactly quite sure what you mean by this. I know you can modify the monobook.css file for all users (if you are the admin for it), or for individual users (through User:User/monobook.css). Does this help? -^demon 16:04, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Hmm.. not really. I want to add some css declarations for only one page. In a normal webpage you could have your governing css page for your whole webpage and then use the style tag to add style declarations for individual pages. I was hoping to add a declaration for just this page but I have no access to the header. Was wondering if there was another was to avoid making multiple style declarations for many elements. Porco-esphino 03:25, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Short of using a class or id (which if it's multiple elements, an id can't be used), there is no way to apply styles to many elements. Unless you want to handwrite them all in the style attribute of each tag, when I'm sure you don't. I'm *thinking* there's a way to transclude other data (like templates are), but I'd have to check into it again --^demon 07:47, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah.. Im using classes at the momment. I cant use them in wikipedia though, because I cant define them. What are these templates? Porco-esphino 12:35, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

I mean normal templates, like {{cite}} or {{db-nonsense}}. I *think* there's a way to transclude normal page (like this one). But I can't remember how. If you put the CSS classes within a template, and included it, it might work. Lemmie play with some stuff and I can tell you later. --^demon 16:40, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to VandalProof!

Hi ^demon/Archive1, thank you for your interest in VandalProof and Congratulations! You are now one of our authorized users, so if you haven't already simply download VandalProof from our main page, install and you're ready to go!

If you have any problems please feel free to contact me or post a message on VandalProof's talk page. Once again congrats and welcome to our team! - Glen TC (Stollery) 14:57, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

PS: Although you have been approved I am having some issues with the moderator settings at the moment so right this minute the program won't recognise you yet - however keep an eye on the registration page as we should get it sorted soon. Thanks again! - Glen TC (Stollery) 14:57, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Just a heads up for you, it seems all the mods are experiencing the same probs as me, but no doubt AmiDaniel will be here soon and we'll be up and running. Sorry for the delay, rest assured the wait's worth it! :) - Glen TC (Stollery) 18:22, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
You're all set! 18:54, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof login

VP runs thru IE so try logging in thru IE before you start the program (make sure you have cookies enabled) - see how that goes - Glen TC (Stollery) 20:06, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry I completely missed your latest message! So, when you booted it up initially it asked you for your login name? - Glen TC (Stollery) 20:38, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof

Are you still having problems using VandalProof? (Please respond here if you are online now, otherwise use my talk page).

Prodego talk 22:23, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes I am. If you have AIM, MSN, or GTalk, that would be the easiest way for you to help me troubleshoot. ^demon[yell at me] /22:26, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
If I use Wikipedia's talk pages it keeps a log for the other mods, so I would rather use it, but I could use AIM or Gtalk if you would like. First what browser do you use to edit wikipedia normally?
Prodego talk 22:30, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I usually use Firefox (v1.5.0.3) for my editing, but I switched over to IE6 (WinXP, with SP2) to use this tool. I logged in, and left the window open (just in case), then I launched the tool. The first time I launched, it asked what my name was (I entered ^demon). Now, it goes to a page that says "Login Request Failed" and it mentions my username (which means it's accepting that the name exists). I'm baffled. ^demon[yell at me] /22:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Do you have "remember me" set in IE? If not are you using the login link? Prodego talk 22:36, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Yep, to both questions. It'll say I'm logged in, but then it won't enable any functions of the tool. ^demon[yell at me] /22:37, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Ok I think I know what the problem is (the ^ in your username), but first one last question, you have cookies enbled in IE right? Prodego talk 22:39, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I do have cookies enabled. I was actually thinking that the ^ was the issue. Perhaps we encountered a previously unknown bug. I could create an additional account for the purpose of using the tool, if that would help. ^demon[yell at me] /22:41, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
No this is a known bug, Eagle and I just had to work it out with (aeropagitica). Go under File -> Set username in VandalProof, and let me know what it is set at. (also I changed one thing so logging in might work). Prodego talk 22:46, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
The new user is Antidemon. ^demon[yell at me] /22:53, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Let me see if I can get this account to work, if not we can use Antidemon as a backup. (See above question) Prodego talk 22:54, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
It is currently set to ^demon and I am also logged in in IE in ^demon. ^demon[yell at me] /22:55, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Ok try to log in. If that dosen't work set the username under File -> Set username to "%5Edemon" (no quotes), then log in as normal inside vandalproof (as ^demon). Prodego talk 22:57, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I tried both, still no avail. ^demon[yell at me] /23:01, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Ok, hold on. Prodego talk 23:04, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

One last check:

  1. Make sure cookies are enabled in IE
  2. Open VandalProof
  3. Set File -> Set username to ^demon
  4. Select login under number two in the "Your log-in request failed" box
  5. Enter ^demon and your password
  6. If this works stop
  7. If not shut down VandalProof
  8. Use File -> Set username and change your username to %5Edemon
  9. Select login under number two in the "Your log-in request failed" box
  10. Enter ^demon and your password
  11. If this doesn't work let me know

Prodego talk 23:23, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

If this fails we'll just use Antidemon. Prodego talk 23:28, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
When I tried to login (using option 2, during your step 5), VandalProof crashed on me. So I reopened it and try to login (using steps 7-10). Also did not work. I'm guessing we're going to have to go with Antidemon. ^demon[yell at me] /23:30, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Well the crash may have been unrelated, so repeat steps 2-6 until there is no crash. But I'll go ahead approve Antidemon. Prodego talk 23:33, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Still failed. I'll just use Antidemon then. Hmm, I guess this is in the notes for fixes for the next release. ^demon[yell at me] /23:36, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it should be fixed in the next version. Eagle 101 might come and make sure I didn't miss anything, but for now Antidemon is approved, so good luck vandal fighting! Prodego talk 23:39, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

More help

Please clarify, are you logging into wikipedia as user:^demon or as %5Edemon?? You should be logging in as ^demon( on the wiki). For VP, you should be logging in as %5Edemon. (let me know if this works, leave me a note on my page that you responded here, thanks) I have another idea, but lets do easy stuff firstEagle talk 17:17, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

When logging into WP-en, I use ^demon as my login name. When logging in to VP, I have tried both ^demon and %5Edemon, neither of which worked (the former of the two seemed to cause VP to crash, actually). I can't try it on this laptop, but I'll be home on my PC in about an hour, and I can mess around with it then. ^demon[yell at me] /17:22, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
That sounds good, if it does not work, I have a second request. (depending on your response, I may be able to get you up and working). Good luck. (as before, let me know that you responded on my talkpage, thanks.)Eagle talk 21:08, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Login request still failing. Logged in to WP-en as ^demon and to VP as %5Edemon. ^demon[yell at me] /21:15, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Ok, in that case, why don't we wait untill the weekend, I think the next release of VP is due then... I have a second method but it is long, and a tad technical:-(. If the new version of VP does not work for you, I will take you through it. (at least for now you have a sockpuppet that has been permitted to logon to VP.) Agian, if the new version does not work for you, then by all means please get my attention and I will take you through this. Eagle talk 22:03, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I have a different idea... when asked to log onto VP, please try both versions of your name (not yet).

First off, check your cookies, do you have these four??? enwikiToken, enwikiUserID, enwiki_session, enwikiUserName? If not the problem is not VP.Eagle talk 22:12, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
Checking my chad@en.wikipedia[1].txt cookie, I have enwikiToken, enwikiUserID, and enwikiUserName. Therefore I'm missing enwiki_session. ^demon[yell at me] /22:46, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
lol, were you online, on wikipedia at the time you checked? Session cookies are normally destroyed at the end of your browsing session on wikipedia. Regardless this confirms that it is VP that has the problem. If, after the update you are still having problems I will assist you then. (my alternate method may work, but it does require some contrived steps. (lets avoid this if possible:-)Eagle talk 00:14, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Big Dog Eat Child

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Big Dog Eat Child, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. I have nominated the article for deletion instead; the debate may be found at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Big Dog Eat Child, which overrides the need for a {{prod}} tag. I have explained my reasons for doing this in my nomination. Thanks! Mangojuicetalk 15:30, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I forgot to mention this earlier, but I think you did {{subst:dated prod}} when you tagged this article. It's better to use {{subst:prod}} instead, which creates an unsubsted dated prod, because this is easy to identify and remove if someone objects; when substed, it's not as clear where the dated prod ends. Also, using subst:prod fills in the date for you.  :) Mangojuicetalk 20:26, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Actuarial Outpost

I hate to bother you, but you can please reverse the changes that Avraham has again made in his biased attempts to undo your netural changes.

Thank you.

Thank you for trying, demon, I'm sorry it didn't work out cleanly. -- Avi 00:06, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

The former webmaster of the site (for 5+ years) has commented that there have been at least two other spinoffs. As such, perhaps this one is not noteworthy either, and maybe no mention of it should be made. Could I trouble you to weigh in on the talk page, please? -- Avi 00:24, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Just got around to this on WP:RFI. Do you still need help or is this sorted? Petros471 13:50, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. — Ian Manka Talk to me‼ 03:01, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:02, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
