"(Nice Dream)" is a song on the 1995 album The Bends by alternative rock band Radiohead.
"(Nice Dream)" is quiet and ethereal for most of its length, but nearing the end there is an electric guitar freakout by Jonny Greenwood before returning to the main verse. Heard in the background at the start and end of the track are selections from an Arctic-sounds tape of Bends producer John Leckie's.
This song's lyrics are said to be inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's novel Cat's Cradle, particularly the line "the sea will electrocute us all". The song's narrator revels in a happy-life fantasy, but concludes it can be nothing more than a "nice dream". The demo version, available on the compilation Volume 13, is mainly an acoustic number featuring organ and strings, and contains different lyrics, including "I'm a sweet man, made of chocolate".
Radiohead singer-songwriter Thom Yorke: "We all debuted playing acoustic guitar on this in a sort of cosmic Kumbaya outside the studio. There's this awful photograph of us all sitting on a lawn with headphones on. The lyrics came out of a half-drunk dream I had, one of those where you don't really sleep properly. It's about our relationship with people generally."
